There are a couple of books in the Bible that many of us do not understand. We mean books like Ezekiel where we find chariots with wheels with eyes all over them or like Daniel and Revelation where you read of varied beasts and women who are clothed with the sun and some who sit on creepy beasts.
It is so easy to turn off when we come across these portions of scripture. This is simply because we do not understand them. A lot of us are cool with keeping to Psalms and Proverbs or the New Testament. But even in those books are found things hard to understand. Skipping these things is dangerous. We believe every single book in the Bible is relevant and the Bible as a whole links together and explains itself. At times we also have to look back into the pages of history to be able to understand certain things in God’s Word. Observing our present also reveals to us a lot of what is spoken of in the Bible.
Prophecy is a very important aspect of the gospel that all professing Christians have to understand. This gift or these revelations are not exclusive to preachers or ‘prophets’ as some have been made to believe but God gives this gift to all. The Bible says this:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”– James 1vs5
And Paul the Apostle says:
“So [to conclude], my brethren, earnestly desire and set your hearts on prophesying (on being inspired to preach and teach and to interpret God’s will and purpose), and do not forbid or hinder speaking in [unknown] tongues.”– 1 Corinthians 13vs14 (AMP)
You may think that you can be ready for Jesus Christ’s second coming without the spirit of prophecy but this is not a true hope. Check out what these verses say:
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants; things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.”– Revelation 1vs1-2 (NKJV)
“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.”–Revelation 1vs3 (NKJV)
“”Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.””- Revelation 22vs7
“Then the LORD answered me and said:”Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.””- Habakkuk 2vs2 (NKJV)
“And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, who called, and said, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.” So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was afraid and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end.””– Daniel 8vs16-17 (NKJV)
As you can see in these scriptures these books are meant to be understood. God is willing to reveal to anyone the secrets that they whole. This is present truth, the truth for our time. These books are not sealed but are wide open for our understanding. Many of us are not walking worthy to God’s call simply because we have neglected these truths.
Before you embark on the journey of understanding prophecy is important to understand the signs and symbols used throughout the Bible. Understanding the symbols will help you better interpret the scripture and make sense of the prophecies contained in it.
Below you will find a list of symbols or signs used in the Bible, their meanings and the scriptural references to these meanings. We found this list on the Amazing Facts website while doing a Bible study. Amazing Facts is a great resource for learning more about prophecy and more. You should check them out! Be blessed.
